Another New Year

Did You Make Any Resolutions?

I always struggle to keep those (just like everyone else). This year I’m trying to hold on.

To make things simple, I only made one:

DRAW EVERYDAY

I’ve done pretty well so far, I tried to make this as broad and simple for myself as possible. I didn’t want to limit it to my sketchbook or to make a finished drawing. The real goal for me is to make sure that I am working on something that I love to do every day.

Try to find that extra 10-15 minutes every day to draw, paint, or something that you love to do. You’f be surprised at how much time you can find.

Carry your sketchbook with youa during your commute (not while you’re driving of course) on the train, bus, or taxi. Make sure that you have material that is portable like pencils and pens! Draw what you see, or what you’re feeling, or that crazy dream you had last night.

What about on your lunch break, early mornings, or late at night when the world around us can be a bit calmer. I like early mornings. I get up early anyhow, pour myself a cup of coffee, and before I check the news, social media, or those other distractions, I open my sketch book and draw. Even if it only for 10-15 minutes.

IT HAS BEEN FUN!

I feel that I have been getting more done.

At first, it might seem like a it is becoming a task and difficult to find those extra minutes. You’d be surprised at how much time you have once you start looking for it.

Once you find those times, you will realize that you start to look forward to it. It can become a break or a bit of sanity in a chaotic day. You’ll even start to realize that you thinking about it at times throughout the rest of your day. What can I draw tomorrow? I’d like to try to draw flowers or people or hands or buildings…

I’m finding that I’m drawing in my sketchbook, finishing projects that I started, and feeling like I’m moving forward.

That’s the real goal right?

MOVING FORWARD
